Court denies appeal

Casper, WY – A federal appeals court has dismissed an appeal filed by a Wyoming woman who was convicted of murdering her husband nearly 30 years after he was shot to death.
Rita Ann Humphrey had argued that her first-degree murder conviction in Wyoming courts in 2006 for the 1977 shooting death of her husband had violated her constitutional right to a speedy trial.
A three-judge panel of the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in
Denver on Wednesday dismissed Humphrey's appeal. The ruling states
that she failed to show that the Wyoming Supreme Court violated

Legislature begins redistricting work

Casper, WY – Wyoming lawmakers are planning a series of meetings around the state this summer to hear from the public about how to map out new legislative districts.
The legislative panel charged with drawing new district lines
adopted a list of principles on Tuesday it will follow in the
redistricting process. Those include keeping the new districts
contiguous and compact while allowing them to reflect communities
of interest, and following county boundaries as much as possible
while avoiding the dilution of the rights of minority groups.
