Missing man's body found near Rock Springs

Rock Springs, Wyo. – Searchers in Sweetwater County have found the body of a 72-year-old hiker who was missing for two weeks.

Jean Baptist Soule, of Rock Springs, was found Saturday in a draw northwest of Rock Springs. The Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office says an autopsy is being scheduled but foul play is not suspected.

Soule was last seen the morning of Nov. 20 leaving his home for his daily walk. He was an avid hiker known to cover up to 30 miles in a single day.

USDA to provide $30M for sage grouse protection

Casper, Wyo. – The U.S. Department of Agriculture is boosting funding to protect sage grouse and sage grouse habitat in 11 Western states.

This will be the second year of the Natural Resources Conservation Service Sage Grouse Initiative. Up to $30 million will go to the states where sage grouse are found, an increase from $18.5 million in 2010.

Sage grouse are a mottled brown, football-sized bird found in Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, California, Colorado, Utah, Washington, Oregon, South Dakota, North Dakota and Canada.

Focus Group Assesses Child Care

LARAMIE, wyo – The results of a series of focus groups in Laramie County show that cost is the biggest problem when it comes to receiving and providing local child care. Parents also say they saw a lack of child care options and noted the challenges of communication between parents and child care providers as significant obstacles. United Way of Laramie County funded the focus groups. Rod Hottle is the organization's program coordinator.

Gov's office: Problems likely with drilling plan

CHEYENNE, wyo – Gov. Dave Freudenthal's office says it has significant concerns after taking an advance look at a draft plan to allow 136 gas wells in the Wyoming Range.

Deputy Chief of Staff Ryan Lance says the governor's office wants Houston-based Plains Exploration and Production Co. to agree to a "very high bar" before drilling.

The project would be the first drilling within the boundaries set by the Wyoming Range Legacy Act since President Obama signed it into law last year.

Group files appeal in anticline lawsuit

JACKSON, wyo – A conservation group has filed an appeal in its lawsuit over wildlife in the Pinedale Anticline gas field.

The appeal filed by the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership follows a recent report showing a significant decline in mule deer numbers on the anticline.

A court in 2008 ruled against the group. That decision allowed plans to expand the Pinedale Anticline gas field to move ahead.
