Cheyenne Police Track Gang Activity

LARAMIE, wyo – Authorities with the police department have identified many gang members in and around Cheyenne. Some of these individuals claim to be affiliated with organized national gangs like southern California based Suerenos and Sur 13. Both of those gangs maintain links with the Mexican Mafia. Cheyenne Police Sergeant Rob Dafoe says the total number of gang members is larger than expected.

Teen wants out of guilty pleas in Sheridan killing

Sheridan, Wyo. – A Sheridan teenager is asking to withdraw the guilty pleas he entered recently in the home-invasion killing of a prominent businessman last year.

Seventeen-year-old Wyatt Bear Cloud pleaded guilty early this month to first-degree murder and other charges in the August 2009 killing of 79-year-old Robert Ernst. Bear Cloud faces a minimum sentence of life in prison.

Freudenthal praises but doesn't endorse Petersen

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Gov. Dave Freudenthal says Democratic gubernatorial candidate Leslie Petersen is fully qualified to serve as governor, but he stopped short of giving her his formal
endorsement.

Freudenthal appeared with Petersen on Tuesday at the state Capitol in Cheyenne. He says voters need to consider Petersen's governmental experience, including her time as a Teton County commissioner.

But Freudenthal says it's not his job in a democracy to pick his successor, and says the voters wouldn't listen to him if he tried.

Wyoming Says Same-Sex Marriage Not A Fundamental Right

LARAMIE, wyo – Wyoming is one of thirteen states that have signed onto a legal brief declaring that same-sex marriage is not a fundamental right. This comes in the wake of a federal judge's ruling that California's same sex marriage ban is unconstitutional. Wyoming Attorney General Bruce Salzburg could have chosen not to sign onto the brief but he says it is his responsibility to defend the constitutionality of state law.
