Wyoming joins other states in gay marriage opposition brief

Cheyenne, Wy – Wyoming and nine other states have filed a gay marriage opposition brief to a federal appeals court in California.
The amicus brief sent Friday to the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of
Appeals says that the Constitution does not require marriage to
include same-sex couples. It also says that states, not federal
courts, have final say in whether to allow same-sex marriages.

Wyoming Plays Air Force

LARAMIE, wyo – If the Wyoming Cowboys are going to win Saturday they will need to find a way to stop Air Force Quarterback Tim Jefferson. Jefferson has been tremendous this year scoring four touchdowns and throwing for three more. He is a big reason Air Force is much improved this season. Wyoming Coach Dave Christensen says Jefferson has been a handful.

Motorcycle Fatalities Rise This Year

LARAMIE, wyo – Motorcycle fatalities are up significantly this year in Wyoming. Twenty-three riders have died this year, nearly doubling the numbers from last year. Alcohol use and excessive speed are suspected to be causes for many of the deaths. Dave Kingham is the Spokesperson for the Wyoming Department of Transportation. He says there's been an increase in motorcycle riders in the state over the last few years.

Boost Til Nine Safety Campaign Continues In Wyoming

LARAMIE, wyo – The Wyoming Safe Kids Coordinator says the state has been at the forefront of vehicular child safety laws nationwide, but Diane Guerttman also says that there are still many people that don't know that children need to use proper seats until they are nine years old. This led to the new Boost Til Nine Campaign. Guerttman says it will help inform parents about proper booster seat use.

Wyoming treasurer: Write off overpayment to cities

CHEYENNE, wyo – Wyoming State Treasurer Joe Meyer wants the state to write off a $2.5 million dollar overpayment it made to several cities and counties in 1994.

Meyer said he will ask lawmakers to sponsor legislation that would erase the debt.

Officials have said the state overpaid local governments from severance tax revenue because of a state accounting error. It was discovered by an audit.

Yellowstone fire reaches 3,000 acres

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo – A wildfire in Yellowstone National Park has grown to more than 3,000 acres, or about 4-and-a-half square miles, and is 30-percent contained.

Park officials said Friday part of the Grand Loop Road remains closed. All other park roads, entrances, campgrounds, lodging and other amenities are open.

Ground crews and helicopters are trying to contain the southeast corner of the fire while monitoring other areas.

Lightning ignited the fire on Sept. 14.
