Fremont County Commission endorses voting plans

Cheyenne, Wyo. – The Fremont County Commission has endorsed two possible plans for election of county commissioners.

A federal judge this spring ruled at-large county elections dilute the American Indian vote. He ordered Fremont County to propose a new voting system by next Wednesday.

Fremont County Attorney Brian Varn says one plan the commission endorsed would designate a commission district in which American Indians would be the majority while continuing with at-large elections elsewhere.

Guard's 'Charlie Med' unit returns to Wyoming

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Twenty-one Wyoming Army National Guard soldiers are returning from a nearly one-year deployment during which they conducted medical evacuation missions in Afghanistan.

The Guard has planned a ceremony to welcome the soldiers at noon Thursday at the Raper Armory in Cheyenne.

The soldiers are members of C Company, 5th Battalion, 159th General Support Aviation Brigade, also known as Charlie Med.

The Guard says the company is the most deployed unit in the Wyoming Army National Guard.

Safeway and Wyoming workers have tentative agreement

Laramie, Wyo. – Safeway and the union representing workers at its ten Wyoming grocery stores have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract.

Tammy Baker works at the Casper Safeway, and is a negotiator for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local Number Seven. She says she's pleased with the proposed agreement. "The most important part was our pension and our health and welfare," she said. "That's our medical, dental and vision. We got improvements in that and we got a pension equal to Colorado's."
