Laramie Democrat will run for State Superintendent

Laramie, Wyo. – State Sen. Mike Massie is seeking the Wyoming Democratic Party's nomination to run for state
superintendent of public instruction.
The 56-year-old Massie is a 16-year member of the state

Highway Patrol names interim administrator

Cheyenne, WY – Lt. Col. Jess Oyler of Cheyenne has been named interim administrator of the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Oyler is a 31-year Highway Patrol veteran.

He is a native of Rawlins who joined the Patrol in 1979 and has earned successive promotions since then. He has served as the agency's operations commander since 2003.

State Department of Transportation Director John Cox says Oyler will serve as administrator until a permanent replacement can be found for Col. Sam Powell, who retired last Friday.

Companies apply to drill oil in southeast Wyoming

Cheyenne, WY – Three companies have applied in recent weeks to drill more than two dozen oil wells in southeastern Wyoming, an area that has had little oil development.

Industry officials say new techniques that have opened up North Dakota's Bakken shale to oil drilling over the past couple years might soon be used to exploit the Niobrara
shale underlying eastern Wyoming.
