Cheyenne, Wyo. – A district court judge says Gov. Dave Freudenthal should have released budget cuts proposed by state agencies.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle sued the governor and two state agencies in May for withholding their budget recommendations. Wyoming Attorney General Bruce Salzburg argued that the state shouldn't have to release documents that it wouldn't be required to reveal to a private party in a lawsuit involving a state agency.
Gillette, Wyo. – Drilling for gas in the Fortification Creek elk range of northeast Wyoming is expected to start by the end of August after federal land managers ruled the drilling would have no significant environmental impact.
Anadarko Petroleum told the Gillette News-Record in an e-mail it is moving ahead with plans to start drilling 134 wells in the area northwest of Gillette.
Laramie, Wyo. – The director of the state's Division of Criminal Investigation says Wyoming is seeing an increase in the availability and sales of cocaine and methamphetamine. Forrest Bright says the bump in cocaine use started about a year ago, while the increase in meth is more recent. He says DCI is not finding new meth labs, so it seems the drug must be imported. "It's pretty apparent from our sources that it is still coming out of the Mexico area, but we are seeing an increase in availability and sales in Wyoming," Bright said.
