State gets ready for stimulus fund grants

Cheyenne, WY – The Wyoming State Loan and Investment Board has enacted emergency rules in anticipation of federal stimulus funding for water and sewer projects.

Wyoming expects to receive nearly $39 million for its Clean Water and Drinking Water state revolving fund loan programs.

But the funding comes with some strings attached. For one, the state must lend the money to local entities without interest and with some principal forgiveness, making the loans more like grants.

Wyoming investments and retirement funds down

Cheyenne, WY – Wyoming continues to see the value of its investments sink.

The latest figures from the Wyoming State Treasurer's Office show that the state's investments had a market value at the end of January of about 10 billion dollars.

The state originally paid about $11 billion for the investments, leaving the state with an unrealized loss of more than 1 billion dollars.

Federal student loan proposal would have local effects

Laramie, WY – President Obama is proposing that student loans should now come from the federal government rather than private companies. This could mean the end of the Wyoming Student Loan Corporation, a non-profit company that has offered loans for almost 30 years in Wyoming.
