Yellowstone Rivers Dangerous

Laramie, Wy – As the summer tourist season kicks off this weekend, Yellowstone National Park is warning visitors of high and fast-flowing rivers.
Above normal winter snowpack, spring rain and warm temperatures has caused higher than normal runoff in the park.
Swimming areas at Boiling river near Mammoth and the Firehole River along the Firehole Canyon Drive are closed.
In addition, water temperature in lakes, rivers and streams is very cold right now and can quickly lead to hypothermia.

UW Golf Course Expansion Not so Popular

Laramie, Wy – A plan to expand the University of Wyoming Golf Course and build about a thousand houses in Laramie has raised concerns among some citizens about groundwater contamination, flooding and open space.
The development would encompass 720 acres in east Laramie. Much of the land involved is on top of an aquifer that supplies the city with water.
A representative of the development company says the developer has plans to protect the aquifer from contamination and deal with potential flooding.

I-80 Shooting Ends with Death

Laramie, Wy – Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers shot
and killed a man west of Green River Thursday after he rammed into and shot at several vehicles along Interstate 80.
Sweetwater County Sheriff Dave Gray says two people were hospitalized with cuts and bruises. But aside from the shooter, no one was shot or seriously injured.

Poll: Cheyenne Supports Smoking Ban

Laramie, Wy – Nearly two-thirds of Cheyenne households
say they support a ban on smoking in all public places in town, including bars and restaurants.
This is the result of a poll commissioned by the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle. It comes as the City Council considers a ban on smoking in all public places in Cheyenne.
The ordinance passed the second of three readings earlier this week.
Of those responding to the poll, 79 percent said they supported a smoking ban in restaurants, while 65 percent backed a smoking ban in all public places, including bars.
