1st Quarter '06 Crime Stats: More Murders, Rapes

Cheyenne, WY – State statistics show that crime fell in
Wyoming during the first quarter of 2006 compared to the same period a year ago.
The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation reports that crime dropped 8-point-7 percent for the first three months of 2006, compared to the same three months last year.
Murder was up 50 percent, with three reported statewide for the first quarter of this year. There were two murders reported in the same period last year.
Reports of rapes increased 33 percent for the first quarter of this year. There were 28 reported in the first three months of this year, compared with 21 reported in the first three months of last year.
Tina Henderson is victim-witness coordinator with the Cheyenne
Police Department. She says the increase in reported rapes doesn't mean there were actually more rapes committed, but shows that victims feel more comfortable reporting the crime.
