Laramie, WY – Energy company Anadarko granted easement of about 19 miles of land to a section of the Continental Divide Trail in southern Wyoming. Continental Divide Trail Alliance executive director Bruce Ward says that previously hikers took a bit of a detour. Ward says the continental divide trail which will eventually stretch from Canada to Mexico is about two-thirds complete. Additional easements and the securing of rights-of-way are needed especially on private lands to give hikers safe passage. The trail was born out of a congressional mandate in the 1970s much like the Appalachian trail.
