Arapaho Language Takes Root in School
Fremont County, WY – Redoubled efforts to save the Arapaho language are starting to take root in school children. That's according to language teacher Iva Redman. She says the first school year of a revamped language curriculum at Fremont County District 38 is coming to a close. She says the school asked several teachers to stop teaching math or other subjects so that they could start teaching the Arapaho language. Some students now study Arapaho daily, and Redman says the efforts are working.
Redman says that for years the language curriculum on the reservation was less intensive. As a result, student comprehension was very low.
