Bill to Ban Open Containers Passes House Senate

Cheyenne, WY – A bill that would keep drivers and passengers from drinking alcohol on Wyoming highways was given initial approval in the Wyoming Senate. It passed despite concern by Senator Bruce Burns of Sheridan who feared that it would be burdensome for tourists and those in recreational vehicles. Burns feared that those unaware of the law would be arrested if they didn't have alcohol locked in a part of their vehicle. Senator Tony Ross says people were ignoring the real problem of drinking and driving in Wyoming. Wyoming's Open Container law allows a passenger to drink alcohol and Ross says the Highway patrol refers to the current law as a designated drinking law.
