Cheyenne, WY – A state lawmaker plans to try again to change a law he says allows minors in Wyoming to drink alcohol as long as they don't get drunk.
Rep. Keith Gingery is a Jackson Republican and also a county prosecutor.
Gingery says that under current Wyoming law, it's not illegal for children in the state to drink, it's only illegal for them to get drunk.
Gingery is sponsoring a bill that would make it illegal for Wyoming residents under the age of 21 to drink at all, regardless of whether they get drunk.
The legislative session that begins next month will mark the third time that Gingery has tried to change the underage drinking law.
Next month's session primarily deals with budget issues, so it will take a two-thirds vote for the underage drinking bill to be introduced.
