Laramie, Wy – This weekend reports came out that one of the top five elected officials in the state is a finalist for a job in Alaska. Monday, the Department of Education confirmed that State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Trent Blankenship, is indeed a finalist for a position in a school district in Alaska.
Director of Communications, Debra Hinckley, says Blankenship was on his annual leave Monday and did not have any comment, but would when the school district in Alaska makes a decision.
Hinckley says Blankenship is due back into work on Wednesday.
The chair of the Senate Education Committee says he does not know why Blankenship was looking for another job, but he does not think it has to do with money. The job in Alaska does pay more than the State Superintendent of Public Instruction's position.
