BLM begins taking bids for Wyo. coal

Cheyenne, Wyo. – The U.S. Bureau of Land Management says it will now take sealed bids for the second of four coal lease sales planned over the next several months.

The BLM opened bidding Friday for the estimated 56 million tons of coal underlying three square miles of the Powder River Basin.

The BLM plans to hold the coal auction June 15. Bids will be accepted until 4 p.m. on June 14.

The coal is located next to Cloud Peak Energy's Antelope Mine in northern Converse County.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced last week that the BLM would hold four auctions to sell 750 million tons of Powder River Basin Coal. The first auction is scheduled for May 11. Auctions also are planned July 13 and Aug. 17.
