BLM seeks public opinion about new herbicides

The Bureau of Land Management is considering using three new herbicides to manage invasive plant species on public lands in the West.

BLM Weed Specialist Gina Ramos says the agency already uses various pesticides, and they hope the new ones will be more effective.

“These are herbicides that have shown that they will provide additional use for combating some of the invasive plants that we have problems with, such as cheat grass.”

The B-L-M plans to evaluate the environmental risks of using the herbicides … and is asking for input from the public. A community meeting is scheduled for Monday evening in Worland.

Ramos says she hopes to have an Environmental Impact Statement drafted by the end of the year.
