BLM Withdraws Two Parcels from Oil and Gas Auction
By Kristin Espeland
Laramie, WY – The bureau of land management has taken two parcels of land off the oil and gas auction block at a later point in the sale process than usual. Wyoming Game and Fish and environmental groups had protested the leases. They said the parcels northwest of Daniel should remain off-limits to drilling because the more than 4 thousand acres in question contain critical winter and migration habitat for animals. Wyoming outdoor council spokesman Bruce Pendery says more oil and gas activity in the upper green river basin could tip the scales. B-L-M spokesman Steven Hall admits deferring the sale of parcels at this stage in the game is unusual. But he says parcels are definitely reconsidered based on game and fish input. Hall says examples of land reconsidered for sale include some parcels on the pinedale anticline.
