Brass Band Invades Buffalo: Worlds of Music Hosts Orkestar Zirkonium

Worlds of Music brings international musical styles to rural Wyoming. That includes a Balkan-style brass band this weekend in Buffalo. The Seattle-based 15-piece Orkestar Zirkonium will work with local schools and put on a series of free shows and workshops for the public. Worlds of Music organizer David Romtvedt says the group even plans a friendly takeover of downtown Buffalo.

“They call it a crowd plunge because one of the things they like to do is just show up somewhere unannounced and play. We've actually give warning to all the businesses they're going to show up in, but Friday night starting at seven, they'll be on the two blocks of Buffalo's main street.”

Romtvedt says the band will offer a public music workshop Saturday morning at the Cowboy Carousel Art Center, and Orkestar Zirconium will play a dance at Buffalo’s American Legion Hall that night. Funding for the band’s visit comes from the Johnson County Recreation District and the Wyoming Arts Council.
