Bridger-Teton Supervisor's announcement is not a concern
By Bob Beck
Jackson, WY – Bridger-Teton National Forest Supervisor Jacque Buchanan is withdrawing a January decision not to allow oil and gas leases on nearly 70 square miles in the Wyoming range. A spokeswoman for the forest says Buchanan decided that the original environmental analysis on the effects of oil and gas development on wildlife and other environmental concerns was inadequate. While the announcement raised some eyebrows, Cathy Purves of the outdoor group Trout Unlimited says she is not concerned.
"I think she did recognize that there are additional pieces of information that needed to get clarified and this is probably in response to the appeals that were put forth."
Wyoming Congresswoman Cynthia Lummis and other members of the western caucus had tried to get Buchanan's previous ruling overturned. Purves says she believes it will all work out in the end.
