Carbon County to ask for flood relief
RAWLINS, Wyo – Carbon County is preparing to ask for disaster assistance to help farmers hurt by spring floods.
Carbon County Commissioner Terry Weickum tells the Rawlins Times that he plans to sign a letter Monday requesting disaster assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency.
Weickum says he's heard from several farmers who had significant losses during the floods. His letter could set in a motion the relief funding to growers hoping to recoup losses.
Representatives from the Wyoming Department of Agriculture addressed county commissioners last week and explained that if relief funds are approved by the Secretary of Agriculture, they typically arrive in the form of low-interest loans.
