Casper projects hire out-of-state contractors
Laramie, WY – Casper contractors are upset that a couple of big projects appear to be going to out-of-state firms.
The projects involved are the $20 million Gateway Building at Casper College and the $10 million Casper Area Business Innovation Center.
Josh Carnahan, of Associated Builders and Contractors of Wyoming, says too many projects in the state are being awarded to out-of-state firms, or to companies they say have only a token presence in the state.
Officials involved with awarding the contracts say they do not have flexibility to simply dole out construction contracts to local firms mainly because they have to take the lowest bidder.
