CDC: Be ready for the zombie pandemic, other emergencies

The Centers for Disease Control has prepared a new way to teach the importance of emergency preparedness.

The CDC’s publication “Preparedness 101: Zombie Pandemic” begins with a couple, their dog, and a strange virus spreading in the city and turning people into zombies.

Meanwhile, epidemiologists with the CDC race to find a cure, while residents in infected zones bide their time until the zombie pandemic ends.

If this sounds like an atypical report for someone like the C-D-C to put out, it is – it’s actually a comic book about being prepared for emergencies.

However, since it is Halloween, here’s what you should know if zombies, or something less threatening like bad weather, keep you trapped in your house: Make a disaster supply kit complete with food, water, medications, batteries, personal documents, maps, etc. Also, don’t forget things for kids and pets… or items like can openers, rain gear and scissors are also good.

You can, of course, find a good list on the C-D-C’s emergency preparedness website.

The National Weather Service expects heavy snow to move into the southern parts of the state as well as Natrona County and on both sides of the Wind River Range… which makes today a good day to put together a disaster supply kit.

However, should reports of zombies in Wyoming start filtering in, be sure to stay tuned to this station and of course, the Center for Disease Controls website: http://www.bt.cdc.gov/socialmedia/zombies_blog.asp
