Changes In the Works for Property Tax Assessment
Cheyenne, WY – For years Wyoming citizens have complained about how their property is taxed. Currently county assessors base taxation on neighborhood home sales, but the state legislature is looking at making some changes. Senator Phil Nicholas says the assessments should be based on similar homes and not always on neighborhoods. Nicholas is co-sponsoring a bill that could reform the system and make it easier for people to understand or protest.
Senator Charles Scott says the current system is difficult for those who own rural property, because it might take a long time to have a land sale. The Senate will debate the bill two more times.
