ChevronTexaco and State Still Talking About Land Deal
Laramie, Wy – After getting turned down once the state is making another offer to buy land around Fort Phil Kearney and the Fetterman Battlefield. ChevronTexaco owns a ranch that basically surrounds the National Historic sites. The company turned down the first proposal to buy some of the property.
The director of the Office of State Lands and Investments, Lynne Boomgaarden, says there is wide support for this effort because its purchase will help protect the historical designation and a viable tourist destination.
Details about the state's offer are confidential right now, but will be made public before the land board makes a formal decision to buy the land. Boomgaarden says the state still plans on only buying a small amount of the ranch. ChevronTexaco rejected the first offer saying that selling some of the property to the state jeopardizes its chance of selling the entire ranch.
