CHEYENNE, wyo – Cheyenne police say the number of
citations for driving under the influence dropped by more than 25
percent last year.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports police issued 499 tickets for
driving under the influence in 2010, compared with 673 in 2009.
In 2008, police issued 449 DUI tickets, and in 2007, it was 300.
The reasons for the big increase in 2009 and the big drop in
2010 aren't clear.
Police Sgt. Rob Dafoe says it could take years to study the
reasons and to determine whether the drop marks the beginning of a
trend or a one-year blip.
Dafoe says the department has increased its awareness of the
signs of people driving under the influence of narcotics.
