Cheyenne Explosive Plant Booming
Laramie, Wy – A plant that makes explosives near
Cheyenne intends to increase its production by 50 percent by the end of next year. This is to meet increased demand from mining operations in Wyoming's Powder River Basin.
The Dyno Nobel plant makes ammonium nitrate explosives that are used in coal mining.
The Wyoming Tribune-Eagle newspaper reports in a copyright story that a planned 50 million-dollar expansion will help the plant increase production.
Doug Chandler is manager at the Dyno Nobel plant. He says the Powder River Basin in northwestern Wyoming is the largest market for the company's explosives.
Officials say that expanding the plant will add 489 construction jobs in Laramie County next year. Company officials say the plant will generate more than 40 million dollars a year for the local economy after the expansion.
