Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is recruiting internal medicine doctors after the recent closure of a busy clinic left many patients without a doctor. Internal medicine physicians practice the general health care of adults the way pediatricians do for children.
Hospital CEO Margo Karsten says the same thing that’s a challenge in attracting good doctors to Wyoming is also what can lure people to the area.
“Because internal medicine is in such a demand, all states are competing for physicians. And I think what makes it interesting here is both a strength and a challenge, that we’re a little bit more remote.”
Karsten says she’s optimistic that Cheyenne’s small town feel and access to outdoor activities will draw good candidates.
She says she intends to strengthen the hospital’s relationship to a 5-state loan forgiveness program that encourages natives of the Rocky Mountain region to take medical jobs close to home.
