Cheyenne hospital sees many ice accidents

Cheyenne, WY – More people are checking into the emergency room at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for treatment of sprains and broken bones caused by slipping on icy streets and sidewalks.

Tracy Garcia is clinical nurse manager at the hospital's emergency room. She says the most common injuries are sprains and strains, but says a few patients also come in with bone fractures.

Garcia says that the easy way to avoid a trip to the emergency room is to keep sidewalks and driveways shoveled. Shoes with good tread also provide better traction.

But if someone does slip and fall, Garcia advises that they go to a hospital. An X-ray will determine the severity of the injury and the best option for treatment.
