Cheyenne Kids Attack Ads
Cheyenne, Wy – A number of Cheyenne elementary students will tear down tobacco ads in four stores to take a stand on how tobacco is promoted in Cheyenne. The students from Henderson Elementary will tear down the ads in exchange for cleaning up and beautifying the stores. Maria Medina from the Laramie County Tobacco Prevention Project says it's difficult to get stores to get on board.
But Medina says four stories are willing to give it a try. While smoking is an issue, Medina notes that 21 percent of Wyoming youth use spit tobacco compared to the national average of eleven percent. She says studies show that young people are three times more sensitive to advertising then adults.
