Child Abuse Deaths Soar in Wyoming
Laramie, WY – More than 6 children out of every 100 thousand have died from maltreatment in wyoming. That's more than in every other state but one - West Virginia - according to the Child Welfare League. The most recent data from a Wyoming department of family study shows these kinds of child deaths are also on the rise in Wyoming. Pedriatrician and chair of the Wyoming study team, Doctor Valerie Bell, says that the actual number of child deaths is small. But she is concerned about the growing incidence of shaken baby syndrome.
Bell also says the report team has noticed that prosecutors don't go after perpetrators as often because they're not clear on how to gather evidence in a shaken baby case.
