Laramie, Wy – Investigators are looking for clues to the cause of a fire that destroyed the Virginia Dale Community Church in northern Colorado.
The historic church was built soon after Colorado became a state -- but was destroyed by fire Sunday. It was located along U-S 287 just south of the Wyoming border.
Authorities say passers-by reported the flames shortly after midnight -- and the church was burned to the ground.
They say the church traditionally has been left open in the winter months for travelers who might need to seek emergency shelter from the ground blizzards known in the region.
