Cities, counties to pay state $2.5M

Cheyenne, WY – The city of Cheyenne and Laramie County are among Wyoming cities and counties that owe the state money - $2.5 million in all.

State officials say the state paid all municipalities and counties too much in severance tax revenue back in 1994. State officials say the local governments have four years to pay the money back.

The city of Cheyenne must pay $286,000, while Laramie County owes $128,000.

Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says the news is disappointing but he appreciates getting four years to pay the money back.
