Coal Company Tries to Help Gillette Housing Shortage
Laramie, Wy – Several planned developments could help address the critical housing shortage in Gillette over the next couple of years. And a major coal producer is working with one of the developers.
Rio Tinto Energy America operates three coal mines in the Powder River Basin. The company announced Monday that it has sold 44 acres of land to developer Michael Johnson.
Rio Tinto says its contract with Johnson includes giving preferential advance notice to Rio Tinto employees regarding available housing. But the housing will still be available to the general public.
Bob Green is director of sustainable development for Rio Tinto.
He said the development should be a positive step in addressing the
housing shortage in Gillette.
