Committee Approves Tougher Law for Child Sex Offenders

Cheyenne, Wy – In an attempt to get tough on Child sex offenders the legislature's Judiciary Committee approved a bill that would give some offenders life without parole. It would apply to those convicted of two such offenses. Governor Dave Freudenthal spoke in support of the bill Monday. He says evidence shows these people cannot be rehabilitated.
Senator Bruce Burns of Sheridan fears that such a sentence could burden the prison system, and Corrections Director Bob Lampert admitted it could have an impact. But Representative Ann Robinson of Casper says if the state pays such costs but still protects children it will be worth it.
