Laramie, WY – The Community College Commission says Governor Freudenthal's request that community colleges cooperate with a state hiring freeze will not have a significant effect. Commission Executive Director Jim Rose says that's because the state's community colleges are already planning cutbacks. "Most of those colleges are already looking at their own hiring freezes," Rose said, "and in fact I believe some of the community colleges are actually looking at or potentially maybe implementing reductions in force."
Gov. Freudenthal imposed a freeze on new hires at state agencies yesterday, in the face of declining revenue projections. Like community colleges, the University of Wyoming does not have to follow the directive, but President Tom Buchanan has said the university will cooperate.
