Laramie, Wy – One of the world's largest uranium mining companies is seeking federal permission to construct a uranium mine in northeastern Sweetwater County.
Uranium One is seeking permitting from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for its proposed Sweetwater County mine. Officials estimate that the mine would operate for 20 years.
The mine would use the in-situ process, which involves injecting a solution underground to dissolve uranium from the surrounding ore so it can be pumped to the surface and refined.
Uranium One announced last week that it's buying several uranium facilities in Wyoming's Powder River Basin, including mining and processing plants in Campbell and Johnson counties.
