Computer blamed for outage at nuke site

WASHINGTON – The Defense Department says a computer component failure disrupted communication between 50 nuclear missiles and the launch control center at Warren Air Force Base.

A Defense Department spokesman says the Air Force never lost the ability to launch the missiles and that the U.S. Strategic Command is looking into the incident.

A spokesman said the disruption did not appear to be significant and described it as "a technical problem."

The Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles are part of the 319th Missile Squadron stockpiled at Warren Air Force Base near Cheyenne, where 150 ICBMs are located.
