Concerns expressed over wind projects
By Addie Goss
Laramie, Wy – A new online map from the Wyoming Infrastructure Authority shows that many wind projects in Wyoming have been planned in environmentally sensitive areas. Aaron Clark advises the governor on energy issues. He says the map shows major environmental concerns in one key Wyoming wind corridor.
"Right now we're seeing the biggest potential conflicts between Rawlins up to the Medicine Bow Hanna Area near Elk Mountain, where there's been a lot of projects proposed but where the state has identified some significant resources like sage grouse core areas."
Clark says Anschutz has proposed two big wind projects for that area. Horizon Energy also has one in the works. Clark says he hopes the new map will help developers plan future projects for less problematic areas, like the eastern side of the Laramie Range. The map is on the Wyoming Infrastructure Authority website.
