Congress Considers Split Estate Law

Washington, D.C. – Earlier this year the state created a law giving people that do not own the minerals under their land more rights. Now Congress is considering a similar national law. This issue comes up when someone wants access to the minerals or oil and gas.
Representative Barbara Cubin says she is not in favor of this plan and neither is Senator Craig Thomas. He would prefer this is left to states to work on.
The sponsor of this proposal in Congress is Mark Udall from Colorado. He says it might be more efficient for producers if there was a consistent law.
The Federal Farm Bureau Federation supports Udall, but so far he does not have any co-sponsors in Congress for this legislation.
