Consent Decree Reached In Hog Suit
Wheatland, Wy – A settlement has been reached over odor issues at Wyoming Premium Farms in Wheatland. The Hog operation has been a source of legal action by a couple who have contended that it has violated state odor standards and that the state has done little to enforce the violations. All sides reached a consent decree that will require lots of changes that those involved in the lawsuit hope will address the long running concerns. Department of Environmental Quality Director John Corra says one requirement involves covers over lagoons.
In the meantime, Wyoming Premium farms will need to do a number of additional things ranging from better managing sludge at the site, to reducing the numbers of animals in the barns. Plaintiff Attorney Mary Throne is pleased with the comprehensive agreement. But she says only time will tell what impact it will have.
