Court denies appeal

Casper, WY – A federal appeals court has dismissed an appeal filed by a Wyoming woman who was convicted of murdering her husband nearly 30 years after he was shot to death.
Rita Ann Humphrey had argued that her first-degree murder conviction in Wyoming courts in 2006 for the 1977 shooting death of her husband had violated her constitutional right to a speedy trial.
A three-judge panel of the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in
Denver on Wednesday dismissed Humphrey's appeal. The ruling states
that she failed to show that the Wyoming Supreme Court violated
federal law in upholding her convictions.
Humphreys is serving a prison sentence at the women's prison in
Lusk. An attempt to reach her lawyer for comment was not
immediately successful.
