Cubin Tries To Get Taxpayers Their Share Of Refund

Washington, D-C –
Wyoming's congresswoman has had some success fighting an old battle. Since 1986, residents of states with income taxes can deduct state taxes from federal income taxes. But in a place like Wyoming that has mostly sales taxes, no such deduction is allowed. Representative Barbara Cubin says it means that Wyoming residents have been taxed more heavily then their neighbors. But an agreement has been reached in the U-S House that would allow Wyoming and six other states to get deductions based on a persons gross income as well as certain sales taxes they have paid. Cubin says it would mean hundreds of dollars for state taxpayers.
The legislation is expected to pass the House Ways and Means committee by Memorial
