Cyber Attacks More Common

Laramie, Wy – Wyoming state government computers are seeing more and more attempted virus infections. Don Herrold from the Department of Information Technology says during three months this year they stopped 3700 attacks, that's up from 50 during the same period in 2001. The record for most viruses in one day is 38868.
He says to deal with all of these the state has one person who works full time on virus protection.
Herrold says so far there have not been any major infections, though some viruses have gotten through and slowed down individual computers. He says their focus is protecting the state's data, like social security numbers and health care information.
