Cheyenne, WY – The Wyoming Senate is considering making the killing of a pregnant woman an aggravating circumstance in a death penalty case.
Two years ago the Governor vetoed a bill that made it murder when a pregnant woman was killed and another murder when the unborn fetus was killed. Senator Ken Decaria of Evanston is trying to narrow the focus. But he told the Senate that there still appears to be some controversy surrounding his intent.
Decaria says in some domestic violence cases, pregnant women are targeted. He simply wants to give prosecutors a chance to consider the death penalty if a woman is killed in such a circumstance.
The bill will be debated two more times.
