DOH reports 43 health errors last year

Cheyenne, WY – The Wyoming Department of Health says health care facilities in the state reported 43 accidents and errors last year, two of which resulted in death.

The analysis says health care facilities reported 25 injuries associated with a fall, two deaths resulting from falls, 11 medication errors, three cases of serious bed sores and two patients sexually assaulted. It also found there were two surgeries that resulted in foreign objects accidentally left in a body. The latest results don't vary much from the two previous years.

The Legislature in 2005 mandated health care facilities to start reporting their mistakes and errors to the department.

The law specified that the reports remain confidential and not identify specific people.
