Drinking arrests rise at UW

Laramie, Wy – The number of alcohol and drug violations on the University of Wyoming campus went up in 2009. In particular there was a sharp increase in alcohol violations. U-W Police Chief, Troy Lane, says this is NOT due to more students drinking. Rather it is because the state has provided more money to enforce laws related to drinking and driving as well as other alcohol offenses. Plus, he says his department has been more aggressive.
"I think the state has done a very good job in the last several years of trying to educate, but we realized that part of that educational campaign also has to be followed up with a campaign of good enforcement."
In 2009 there were over 350 alcohol violations, that's compared to just over 200 the year before.
