Education Secretary visits Wyoming
Laramie, WY – U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan says community colleges will play a key role as the nation harnesses education to improve its economy.
Duncan spoke Friday at a round-table discussion at Casper College. Participants included Gov. Dave Freudenthal, State Superintendent Jim McBride and Wyoming's entire congressional delegation.
President Barack Obama in July announced a $12 billion plan to increase community college graduates by 5 million by 2020. Duncan praised the proposal, saying community colleges have been under-recognized up to now.
Duncan was in a friendly environment for community college funding.
Community colleges are a popular education option in sparsely populated Wyoming. The state has been at or near the top of all states in community college funding per student in recent years.
