Education standards get poor grades
Laramie, WY – Wyoming is adopting new elementary and secondary education standards for English language arts and mathematics. And that seems like a good thing
An education think tank in Washington says Wyoming's current standards are very weak. At least when compared to the new Common Core State Standards that the state recently announced it was adopting.
The Thomas Fordham Institute gave Wyoming's English language arts standards a "D" grade when compared to the Common Core standards and its math standards a "F."
The institute says Wyoming's standards are generally vague and incomplete.
Earlier this month, the state Education Department announced Wyoming is adopting the Common Core standards for its schools.
It will take a couple of years to fully adopt the new standards.
