Laramie, WY – In Carbon County, the election has finally wrapped up in the disputed race for Elk Mountain mayor. After a 51 to 51 vote draw during the November 2nd election, Carbon County officials planned to draw lots to decide the next mayor, but during a recount they discovered an error: an individual living outside the municipal boundaries of Elk Mountain had voted, when only Elk Mountain residents are eligible to vote for mayor.
Since officials could not identify which ballot belonged to the stray voter, the Carbon County Clerk quickly voided the race and held new elections Tuesday.
In a vote of 52 to 48, Morgan Irene was declared the new mayor of Elk Mountain, beating opponent Rick Christopherson by four votes.
